Complete the Chorus Operations Survey

The Chorus Operations Survey: 2020-2021 Season is now open! Please help provide important data on choral organizations and the choral field by participating - the deadline is February 18.

Complete the Chorus Operations Survey by February 28

Our Chorus Operations Survey (COS) is the most comprehensive source of data available on choruses and the choral field. The information gathered helps choruses make better decisions about programming, budgeting, staffing, and other management practices. Chorus America also uses this data to offer general compensation information for administrative and artistic leaders and singers and to provide customized salary and compensation reports for administrative and artistic leaders.

Chorus America members complete the COS through the SMU DataArts platform every other year. You can find the most recent Chorus Operations Survey Report and COVID-19 Impact Study here.

Your Data Makes the Case for Our Field

It’s more important than ever to complete the survey this year. The resulting Chorus Operations Survey Report will share how choruses’ budgets, digital and in-person programming practices, and staffing have changed due to the impact of COVID. It will also help Chorus America and choral organizations make the case that our field needs continued support. The more data we have, the more effective we can be at telling this important story.

SMU DataArts

SMU DataArts’ mission is to empower arts and cultural leaders with high-quality data and evidence-based resources and insights that help them to overcome challenges and increase impact. The Cultural Data Profile (CDP) is DataArts’ flagship service, which thousands of cultural nonprofits use annually to report their financial and programmatic information. DataArts seeks to be a catalyst for data-informed decision-making.

In December 2020, DataArts streamlined the CDP to make data entry easier for arts and cultural organizations while preserving the data points used to generate valuable insights for all of our stakeholders. Learn more here.

How to Get Started with the Chorus Operations Survey

CDPs included in this survey should have a fiscal year-end date between October 1, 2020 and September 20, 2021 to help us accurately see the impact that COVID-19 has had on the field. Your organization only needs to enter one year of CDP data within this range to complete the Chorus Operations Survey.

By completing a CDP, your organization will have access to a suite of analytic tools to help you better assess capacity, manage day-to-day operations, and plan for the future. Your participation will also enable DataArts to provide the cultural community with consistent, reliable, and comprehensive data on the arts and culture sector.

DataArts provides informative training sessions and resources for organizations on how to participate, as well as a Support Center to answer any questions.  You are strongly encouraged to register for an online session and review the DataArts online resources.
