Emerging conductors - here is a rare opportunity to get lots of podium time conducting a large symphonic choir and a professional chamber ensemble under the guidance of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir's Artistic Director, Canadian-American conductor Jean-Sébastien Vallée who is an internationally recognized conductor, scholar, and pedagogue.  Deadline to apply for the February workshop is November 15th.

The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir’s annual Choral Conductors’ Symposium returns in February 2022 under the leadership of Artistic Director Jean-Sébastien Vallée. The program invites emerging conductors and those who wish to refine their skills to participate in a five-day series of workshops and masterclasses with Jean-Sébastien. Participants will have the rare opportunity to conduct the 100 voices of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and the 20-voice professional core of the TMC in rehearsals throughout the week and in the concluding public performance, which is webcast live.

The theme for the repertoire of this year’s Symposium is Songs of Sanctuary: a musical reflection on the meaning of exile and sanctuary through the works of Caroline Shaw, Paul Hindemith, Roderick Williams, Benjamin Britten, and many others.

Up to five conductors may be selected to participate. Conductors are also welcome to apply to be an observering conductor for the full symposium or an auditing conductor on a session-by-session or daily basis.
