Accepting Applications for Choral Conducting Assistant Scholarship

Choral Conducting Assistant Scholarship Program

For the fourth consecutive year, the Greater New Haven Community Chorus in New Haven, CT, is proud to offer the GNHCC Choral Conducting Assistant Scholarship.

This program presents a remarkable opportunity for a university or college student who is interested in the art of choral conducting. The recipient will gain real-world experience through his/her weekly interaction with this large chorus of varying levels and ability. The recipient, with the mentorship of the Artistic Director, will hone her/his analysis and score study skills, gain invaluable experience “on the podium,” refine rehearsal technique and performance practice, enhance his/her knowledge of vocal pedagogy, as well as assist in the daily administration and artistic direction of the organization. As you know, opportunities like this are few and far between for young aspiring conductors. The friendly and welcoming environment of GNHCC, along with the energetic and passionate approach of Artistic Director Noah Blocker-Glynn, only multiply the value of this experience.

In the words of Spencer Cromwell, (Yale ’12), GNHCC’s first scholarship recipient, “After being granted so much time on the podium, I feel more comfortable and confident in my abilities to lead a productive rehearsal. We have worked on incredibly difficult repertoire that would be a challenge for any professional chorus, and have performed this music on a very high level, despite the wide range of musical talent. The mentorship I have received from this program is invaluable.”

The term of this paid scholarship runs from August 2013 through June 2014 and is divided into two sequential semesters: Fall Semester (September – mid-December), and Spring Semester (January – mid-June).

Further details are provided in the full Position Description. The 2013-2014 season is especially exciting as it is GNHCC’s 50th Anniversary, featuring commissioned works, choral collaborations and other exciting community outreach events.

Applications and materials must be received no later than May 6, 2013.
