American Boychoir in Transition

Princeton, NJ., March 4, 2013 -The American Boychoir announced the resignation of Artistic Director Fernando Malvar-Ruiz  effective July 31, and the return of Dr. James Litton as Artistic Advisor to guide and assist in the transition.

“ After many years of dedicated service and fine choirs, we are saddened by Fernando’s resignation and hope to work with him again” said Board Chair Chet Douglass. Mr. Malvar-Ruiz has been with the Boychoir for 13 years and was the 8th director in its 75 year history. His tenure was highlighted by appearances with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Oscars. Mr. Malvar-Ruiz said, ” I will miss the dedicated choristers and their superb artistry the most. I leave with great memories and the hope that I might have been a positive role model and inspiration for many of them.”

Prior to retirement, Dr. Litton was the Artistic Director of the Boychoir for 16 years. His tenure included artistic and popular success in many medium including live performance, recording, advertising, movies and TV shows.“ While I was enjoying retirement, I am excited to be helping the Boychoir during this transitional time” he noted.” I look forward to helping them in their search for artistic leadership for the 21st century.
