Job description

The Interim Director of Operations reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. This temporary position has full responsibility for overseeing administrative, fundraising, and human resources activities at the Choir School of Delaware, Inc. (CSD). The Interim Director of Operations role will be filled exclusively on a temporary, full-time, in-person basis. The specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Planning & Board Relations

  • Work with the Expansion Committee on implementing a planned expansion project to bring CSD into a new facility as it endeavors to fulfill its mission as a Community Center that Sings.
  • Serve as main contact with seller, architect, contractor, and other vendors and partners for the expansion project.

Operations & Fiscal Oversight

  • Sign and execute all contracts and agreements and to transfer, endorse, sell, assign, set over, and deliver any certificates of deposit, securities, or other financial instruments owned by the Corporation as directed or approved by the Board, except where required or permitted by law.
  • Work with the Director of Development and Advancement, Staff, Finance Committee, and the Board in preparing a budget, and see that the organization operates within budget guidelines.

Community Relations

  • Serve as a spokesperson for the CSD, engaging community leaders, policymakers, volunteers, and donors; acting as an advocate for the needs of the CSD’s programs and students; and cultivating and executing plans to meet those needs.

Programming

  • Collaborate with Choir School staff and the Board of Directors to communicate events, services, concerts, and news to the wider community.

Staff Oversight

  • Supervise all Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.
  • Supervise all department heads in the implementation of their responsibilities, meeting regularly with directors as a group and with collective departments to maintain effective, collegial workflow.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in arts administration, or combination of education and experience in relevant field.
  • Traits such as self-motivation, strong organization, and management skills.
  • Ability to work well with other staff members, the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Background and a passion for the arts, children, and youth.
  • Experience working with under-served children and their families.

Salary range $70k to $84k to commensurate with experience, in addition to a lucrative employer paid benefit package.

Institutional Background

The Choir School of Delaware, a 501(c)(3) organization, provides professional musical training, leadership development, academic support and mentoring in an intergenerational environment for youth in Wilmington, Delaware, and the surrounding region. Choir School staff and volunteers serve as advocates for these students to help guide them to success in academic, music and social endeavors.

Compensation and Benefits: 

Salary range $70k to $84k to commensurate with experience, in addition to a lucrative employer paid benefit package.
