Atlanta Master Chorale Announces Winner of 2024 Choral Composition Competition
Atlanta, GA, November 4, 2024 - The Atlanta Master Chorale is thrilled to announce that Benedikt Brydern has been selected as the winner of the 2024 Atlanta Master Chorale Choral Composition Competition for his piece "Lacrymosa".
The competition received 426 inquiry applications and 241 completed submissions, which were reviewed by the esteemed panel of judges. The breadth and quality of submissions the Chorale received demonstrates the vibrant state of contemporary choral composition. The adjudication panel was particularly impressed by the overall artistic merit and diversity of musical expressions represented in this year's submissions.
Benedikt Brydern is a gifted composer with an impressive background. He studied violin and piano at the Richard-Strauss Academy of Music in Munich, Germany, and undertook private composition studies with Romanian composer Stefan Zorzor. Brydern has won numerous awards, including the Marmor Composition Awards sponsored by the Stanford University Music Department, the William Lincer Foundation Chamber Music Competition, and the Composer's Symposium at the Bach Festival in Eugene, Oregon.
The announcement of Benedikt Brydern as the winner of the 2024 Atlanta Master Chorale Choral Composition Competition was made at the Chorale's Christmas concerts, the weekend of December 13, 14, and 15.
The Atlanta Master Chorale is already preparing for the 2025 competition, and information will be available soon on their website, AtlantaMasterChorale.org.
